Widowed Arjun Khanna lives a wealthy lifestyle in London, England, along with his daughter, Shirani. He decides to re-marry widowed Betty, who also lives in London with her daughter, Anu. Years later both daughters have grown up and are of marriageable age. Anu has fallen in love Danny Grover, and both are expected to marry soon.

Bombay-based wealthy Sagar leaves his disapproving father to get married to middle-classed Sarita, rents a flat, and drives a taxi for a living. Sarita longs to be rich, borrows ten thousand Rupees from a moneylender, Hazarimal, to invest in shares. Her hopes to make quick and easy money turn out to be in vain when the stock market crashes.

Rajesh Khanna plays Mumtaz's jealous husband who begins to doubt her fidelity when his best friend Sanjeev Kumar enters their lives. She is unable to convince Rajesh Khanna that she loves only him. He leaves her, not knowing that she is pregnant with his child. Depressed and confused, Rajesh Khanna becomes a homeless wanderer, while Mumtaz remarries to provide a secure home for her child. Many years later, the truth dawns on him as he turns up, a broken man, at his own daughter's wedding.

Dr. Satish travels from the big city to a small village, where he can serve the poor who cannot afford to go to the city for medical treatment. Once in the village, he meets with Shanti, who lives with her dad, Radhekiran, a watchman. Both Shanti and Satish fall in love, and exchange vows to be married. Radhekiran has an accident, and dies, leaving Shanti to re-locate, without notifying Satish. Satish is devastated at losing Shanti, and tries to locate her, to no avail. His parents want him to marry Kamini, and he agrees to do so. It is then he comes across Shanti, and he is shocked to see that Shanti has given birth to baby-boy, but will not disclose who the father is.

Neena and Kumar meet while on a trip in Kashmir and eventually fall in love. However, another man, Shyam, discovers that Neena is the heir to a large fortune and schemes to win her.
